Wealth Habits

Wealth habits are those activities practiced consistently on a daily basis. Developing key wealth habits making them a part of your lifestyle will help you accumulate the riches you deserve. In another area of the 'Wealth Building Mentor' site we defined success as ... a few simple disciplines practiced every day. The only difference between those who adopt the habits of the wealthy and those of the poor is the level of awareness concerning their unconscious behavior. The three levels of learning to create wealth habits are as follows:

  • Unconscious incompetence, you don't know you don't know
  • Conscious incompetence, you know you don't know
  • Unconscious competent, habits are formed at this level
and you don't think you simply do what you know

Consider these points as it relate to developing the habits necessary to accumulate great wealth and abundance. A fundamental flaw in a person's thought process is to think there is some magic pill or formula that is exclusive only to the wealthy. Furthermore, the uniformed believe there exists a secret society who employs secret techniques to amass wealth. Contrary to what many believe it is indeed possible for anyone to create wealth, riches and abundance or realize any other meaningful desire he/she might pursue.

A major flaw of mine is a love for cookies. Whenever I share with friends or relatives how I truly crave cookies they think I'm joking when I relate how it feels like an addiction. A real problem for me would be to ignore those strong urges to eat a handful of chocolate chips when the overwhelming desire overcomes me. I have created an awareness around those moments when my urges are the most intense. Prior to the time when they happen I make a plan to replace my obsession with eating and anchor my thoughts to the discomfort I inevitably feel afterward.

I discipline myself to fast-forward my mental tape to the end after devouring a bag of cookies. I feel the weight gain and the results associated with my clothes not fitting the way I like them to. Hopefully by now you get the idea ... this is a similar process when it comes to developing the wealth habits that will bring you closer to the lifestyle you deserve.

In order to obtain all you desire for wealth and abundance you must begin by changing your thinking and afterward you must make the necessary adjustments to your existing habits. That is if you're not already wealthy as the result of developing key wealth building habits.

As humans we are habitual by nature and when a habit forms securely, our actions and reactions flow from the subconscious area of our mind and before we know it we are doing a lot of things we ordinarily wouldn't do where given sufficient time to think instead of acting on impulse.

A basic area and a recommended starting point for creating wealth habits is with 'time'. I think this is one of the easiest areas of life to overlook because time is such an intangible commodity we all have at our disposal. Time is one of those precious commodities we will never recoup ... once it is spent or invested it is gone forever. However, one of the fundamental differences between the poor and wealthy is the efficient allocation of time.

I've heard people say: Time is money, and in light of building long term wealth habits this is true, time really is money whether gained or lost.

Arriving early for appointments could mean the difference between an opportunity gained or lost. You could never really know the impact of arriving late depending upon what line of work you're involved in. As a salesperson timing is absolutely critical, when trading the stock, currency or future's markets timing can mean the difference between thousands gained or lost. Timing is a critical factor in almost every area of life.

Yet in a more simplified way paying your bills on time may mean the difference between paying whatever the late fees are and the track record many financial institutions look at to see whether you honor your financial commitments on time. Not only will you get taxed with additional late fees which translates into extra dollars out of your pocket, but the habit of paying your bills late will put you in an unfortunate financial situation of paying late fees regularly.

Make the commitment to never again be late paying a bill, completing an assignment or arriving to an appointment!

Whenever you're running behind schedule consider calling ahead to take the pressure off of being tempted to exceed the speed limits. Leaving for appointments early enough where you have sufficient time to arrive at least 10 minutes early is a wise habit to develop. I suggest you bring reading materials along so you have something to occupy your mind as you wait. Accounting for enough driving time to reach your destination will keep you from the temptation to speed consequently avoiding potential speeding tickets. As a deterrent to help avoid this temptation you might consider the true cost of a speeding ticket:

  • The 'Ticket' ~ obviously
  • Paying for traffic school if speeding isn't habitual
  • Increased insurance premiums, again if this isn't habitual
  • Missed opportunities after being late for commitments
Developing wealth habits is no different from any other habit you might create. The key is to observe the habits of those people who are doing what you want to do and learn to adopt whatever type of habits they practice on an ongoing and consistent basis.

There are all types of solutions to make your life less stressful, especially when it comes to realizing your desired goals and objectives. Again, make it a habit to be a good steward of your time.

Day timers, planners, phones and a bunch of other techno-gadgets presumably are designed to help us manage time better. I suggest you make good use of whatever tool or technology available. Learn to create the wealth building habits as necessary to move you closer to your desired results. However, while you begin your journey remember it is 'impossible' to manage time ... what is more effective is managing daily activities ... manage your use of time.

We all have been endowed by the creator with unique gifts, talents and resources to enjoy life. We are empowered to exercise good stewardship over these for the benefit of all. Since we've been entrusted with a limited amount of time it's best to use time wisely. Not only will you feel better about yourself when every day is a successful one, but you will save a lot of hard earned money in the process.

The only secret I know that is effective towards building wealth is to change your thinking ... practice the discipline of thinking a certain way ~ think thoughts of abundance, health, wealth and prosperity. Your actions will be consistent with creating the wealth habits that will realize the abundance you and your loved ones deserve. Moving according to your faith is a matter of "Doing" things in a certain way!
